This is a great initiative for so many reasons. While our investment and technology communities only look overseas and at predominately white schools for resources, black youth with enormous amount of potential are consistently overlooked. We’ll never know where the next great idea comes from if only one sector of society with minimal innovation is targeted. Some of the greatest inventors, educators and scientists have been black males. That list includes Garrett A. Morgan, George Washington Carver, W.E.B. DuBois, Frederick Douglass, Dr. Vivien E. Thomas and Daniel Hale Williams.

Now… who’s going to tacking mentoring to girls, who need equally as much support if not self-esteem given the “selfie” and Kardashian-sex-tape generation?
